Nest Learning Thermostat will not call for compressor

My Nest thermostat stopped calling for the compressor while I was out of town.  My wife had a local HVAC technician come service the unit.  He saw the Nest thermostat and said he didn't like them because they frequently quit working and replaced it with another thermostat.

I reinstalled the Nest thermostat and I am having the same issue, it will not call for the compressor.  Is there a fix for this?Nest Wiring- No compressorNest Wiring- No compressorOriginal Wiring -WorksOriginal Wiring -Works

Hi there,

Thanks for posting here in Community and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Can you help me with your Nest Learning Thermostat's power reading?

  1. To open the Quick View menu, press the thermostat’s ring.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Turn the ring to highlight Technical Info then press the ring to select it.
  4. Select Power
    • VOC
    • VIN
    • IIN

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Zoe

Hi CoryHCoulter,

Thanks for the information. Some utilities install boxes to cut off power during high demand (peak) times. This can cause the error. Can you check for one of these boxes on your line? Here’s how to see if you have an energy savings box:

  1. Check your meter (possibly near your air conditioner).
  2. Look for a small box with one or 2 lights on it (one light is red, the other is usually green).
  3. This box allows the utility company control to cycle your air conditioner off and on during certain peak times of the day.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
