Nest Learning thermostat won’t switch to home or away

I have a nest thermostat in my Airbnb.  Installed about 6 weeks ago. I have it set for presence sensing ( not my phone) so that it will know when guests come and go.  However it will not switch from home to away or vice versa.   I tried the quick fix suggested on the google support forum which was to set it to away and the stand in front of it.  Tried this, the thermostat did light up but still didn’t switch to home.   Need my nest to switch on and off as guests come and go. Can anyone help?

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

A couple of things we could check to further isolate the issue. Where is the Nest Thermostat located? It is recommended that it is installed to a place where it can detect movement to automatically switch it to Home or Away.
