Nest Power Connector and Burnham IN5I Boiler

I have a Burnham IN5I Boiler and I installed a Nest Thermostat with a two wire setup (from original thermostat). The two wires are connected to W and R on the thermostat.

I keep getting the message "Wi-Fi Disconnected" and error "Install stable power source". It also has a a "Note: N260". As far as I can tell, this means that I need to add a Nest Power Connector to the boiler.

On my Burnham boiler, I think I need to connect the Power Connector to the R8222K Thermostat Isolation Relay. Unfortunately, the relay is not labeled so I cannot figure out how to connect the Power Connector.

Can someone provide guidance?

Thanks!

Hello ultrakiss,

It sounds like you're experiencing some challenges with your Nest Thermostat installation on your boiler. The "Wi-Fi Disconnected" and "Install stable power source" messages, along with the N260, indeed indicate a power-related issue.

If you believe connecting the Nest Power Connector to the thermostat isolation relay is the solution, it's crucial to ensure a correct and secure connection. Since the relay is not labeled, it adds an extra layer of complexity. Here's a general guideline on how you might proceed:

  • Before making any connections, turn off the power to your boiler to ensure safety.
  • Carefully inspect the isolation relay for any markings or color codes. Although it's not labeled, sometimes there are subtle indicators that can guide you.
  • Refer to the Burnham boiler manual or contact Burnham's customer support to get specific information about the wiring and the thermostat isolation relay.
  • If all else fails, you may need to use a trial-and-error approach. Connect the Nest Power Connector to different points on the relay, turning the power on each time to see if the issue is resolved. Ensure all connections are secure, and follow safety precautions.
  • It might be best to seek professional help. Any certified local HVAC technician can ensure the correct and safe installation of the Nest Thermostat.

I hope this helps, and let us know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
Mark
