Nest Second generation thermostat

Hi 

I understand this no longer works If i buy the 3/4th Gernation stat does this just plug into the old second geration or do i need to rewire the whole thing.

The Nest Gen-3 and the Gen-4 have model specific backplates an yes, you will need to remove the Gen-2 backplate.
