Nest Temp sensor google home compatible?

HungryMan
Community Member

I just bought the temp sensor and the thermostat from the google store. I set the thermostat no problem through google home but with the sensor I it says to add it through the nest app. When Im in the nest app it wont let me add the sensor unless I have a thermostat, but when adding the thermostat to nest it just sends me back to google home. How do I either force nest to recognize my thermostat or google home to recognize the sensor.

First things first! Which Nest Thermostat do you have?

The Nest Sensor is compatible with Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen and Nest Thermostat E

Same problem here.  Did anyone find a solution?

Apparently they decided to make things difficult and not explain things up front. The Nest Sensors are one of the ONLY 3 that will only appear in the Nest app.

See this page, https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532?hl=en about halfway down it says "Note: Nest Protect, Nest Tag, and Nest Temperature Sensor will only appear in the Nest app."

I still would have brought the sensor. But dayum it would have been nice to know this ahead of time.

I guess I’m going to return my sensor because I’m not going through the hassle of putting my thermostat accessibility back to the Nest app.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if setting the Temperature Sensor for a Thermostat causes it to report that temperature back via the display and apps? So instead of just using the sensor to trigger heating/cooling, will it reference that as it's "current temperature" rather than the built in sensor in the thermostat?

I have a sensor upstairs and thermostat downstairs. I set up the schedule through the Nest app to use the upstairs sensor for temp control at night, and my Google hub devices reference the appropriate sensors at the appropriate times.

Annoyingly, I cannot reference the other sensor through Google Home, and have to use the Nest app. It all works, but it's a bit of a hassle.

Thanks for the info. I have the same problem with the two apps. It seems silly that there isn't more seamless integration between the two. My ground-floor thermostat is the Learning Smart Thermostat which required the Nest app to set up, and my downstairs one is just a generic Smart Thermostat (Gen 3 I think? Can't remember off the top of my head) and required the Google Home app to set up. Basic functionality for both can be controlled from Home but I need to use the Nest app for most other settings and to view the Temperature Sensor in our baby's room (which actually shows both temperatures).

have the same problem.  I have additional sensors.   when I ask google assistant from GOOGLE MINIs.  I can't get temperature if the sensor used by NEST is the additional sensor.   It will only give me the temperature if the active temperature sensor is the thermostat.   What is the use of integrating NEST to Google home assistant if I cant get me temperature reading before changing the setting if it is hot or cold

Google assistant.. temperature inside. Does not work.  It says something went wrong.  Habe a nest thermostat.  Google home provides the right temp

I just had this problem. Literally just got home from returning my sensor. It doesn’t work with the Google home only thermostats.

It's truly unbelievably that Google would create a product experience like this for its users. I purchased the nest temperature sensor and found the exact same issue that they are not compatible with the Google home app. It's been multiple years at this point that Google has this fractured experience and has a stuck between two apps, neither of which fully works.

Beyond frustrated.

Does Google plan on adding home app functionality to the temp sensors

Yes, same question as @HungryMan.

Does Google plan on adding home app functionality to the temp sensors and it other devices?

What's the plan in roadmap for us as users? Has Google abandoned us as they do their other products and services (https://killedbygoogle.com)?
