Nest Thermosstat Geolocation - How to trigger warm up as I approach home?

eddyfrost

My Google Nest Thermostate model 1.4 (software verwion 1.3-10) successfully detects when I am home or away.

My question: is it possible to trigger the 'at home' status when i am 1, 2 or 3 miles from my home? i.e. to increase the size of my 'at home' geolocation area?  This would allow the home to start warming up as I complete my commute home.

Currently I arrive at a cool house which then takes 30 minute to get comfortably warm.

Thank you for considering.

Hi @eddyfrost,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you'd like to trigger the 'at home' status when you're 1, 2, or 3 miles from your home. I'd be happy to assist you.

My apologies, this option is not available. To learn more about Home & Away Routines, you can visit the next article: Home & Away Routines.

Geofencing combines awareness of your current location with awareness of your proximity to your home. To mark the location of your home, you specify your address. The Google Home app defaults your proximity to the location using a radius of 200 meters. The address of the home and radius define a geofence, creating a circular area, or fence, around the home. When the phone enters and exits the edge of the geofence area, your phone's operating system reports an event, but not your location, to the Google Home app.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Anders

Thanks for letting me know that this functionality is not available.  Perhaps it could be considered for a future update?  (Honeywell smart thermostats have allowed this for some years now.)   Thank you.
