Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen Learning Low Battery Issues

My Nest thermostat intermittently looses Wi-Fi and app connectivity as well as motion detection. USB charging works temporarily. I had a spare Nest thermostat learning and swapped them only to have the same issue. I even swapped the base plate to no avail. I installed a Nest power C wire connector at the furnace and still loosing battery voltage down to 3.666. The learning thermostat would not recognize the installation of the connector at the thermostat on the equipment menu. My HVAC still works fine is the good news. I’m ready to try a $20.00 battery bought on Amazon as a last resort. For what it’s worth, the Voc is 36.05v, Vin is 36.17v, lin 40mA(i).
