Nest Thermostat - Blows Cold Air

needingadvice
Community Member

Hi all  - Desperately needing advice because I tried almost everything.

Issue:

- Nest thermostat is replacing Honeywell thermostat. It hasn't worked upon installation and the heat setting is blowing cold air. I live in a condo in Canada and the heat pump is for heating, cooling and fan.

Troubleshooting/what I've done:

- Double checked the wiring (old thermostat had wires for G, W, C, Y and R. I have installed Y1 (cool), G(ground), W1(heat), C(common wire), and Rc(power))

- Switched Y1 and W2 (it ends up blowing out even colder air when switched)

-Switched RC and RH

- Turned on and off the heat pump

- Restarted and restored to the factory settings the thermostat

- Deleted the thermostat from the nest app and re-added it

Hi needingadvice,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for being ahead of the troubleshooting steps. Let me take a look at this for you. A few questions:

  • Are you located in North America or Europe?
  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Is the Nest Thermostat newly installed?
  • Did you use the Compatibility Checker tool to confirm the thermostat's compatibility.
  • Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?
  • What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
  • When did heating last work?
  • Did heating ever work with the Nest thermostat?
  • Did the heating work with the previous thermostat?
  • Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?
  • Did you recently turn off any breakers?
  • Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?
  • Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?
  • Did you select the correct fuel type?
  • Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board? If yes, locate the light.
  • When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
  • Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?
  • Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?
  • Could you send us a wiring photo of your previous thermostat and a photo of how you connected the wires to the Nest Thermostat base?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe
