Nest E keeps switching back to old Wifi inactive network

We have 4 Nest E thermostats in our home.  Three of them I never have issues with.  We recently changed our Wifi network in our home (mesh router with high speed fiber optic) One of them keeps dropping the current new wifi network and connecting to the old network that does not exist in our home anymore.  It does it randomly, sometimes it won't do it for a few days and other times it will do it hours after I reselect the new active network.  It will show in my app as "offline" until I manually re-select the new active network.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to keep it connected on the current active Wifi network?

Thanks in advance.... Travis

Hi TravisP,

Yikes! If one of your Nest Thermostat E is consistently dropping the current Wi-Fi network and reconnecting to an old network that no longer exists, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Start by restarting the problematic thermostat. You can do this by going to the thermostat settings and selecting "Restart" or by temporarily removing it from the wall plate and reattaching it. This simple step can often help resolve temporary connectivity issues.
  2. In the Nest app, try removing the old network from the thermostat's saved Wi-Fi networks. Go to the thermostat's settings, select Wi-Fi, and choose the option to forget the old network. Then, reconnect the thermostat to your current active Wi-Fi network by following the setup process in the Nest app. Make sure you select the correct network and enter the correct Wi-Fi password.
  3. Ensure that the problematic thermostat is within range of your Wi-Fi network and that the signal strength is strong enough for a stable connection. If the thermostat is located far from the router or there are obstacles blocking the Wi-Fi signal, consider repositioning either the thermostat or the router to improve signal strength.
  4. If the issue persists, you can try resetting the network settings on the problematic thermostat. This will remove all saved Wi-Fi networks and force you to set up the thermostat again as if it were new. Go to Settings > Reset > All Settings on your thermostat.
  5. Update Firmware: Ensure that your Nest Thermostats are running the latest firmware version. Check for any available updates in the Nest app or on the official Nest website. Firmware updates can sometimes address known connectivity issues and improve the stability of your thermostats' Wi-Fi connections.

It's worth noting that sometimes Wi-Fi connectivity issues can be related to the router or network configuration rather than the thermostat itself. If you're experiencing difficulties with multiple devices on your network, it may be worth checking your router settings or contacting your internet service provider for assistance.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
