Nest Thermostat Defective?

MikeT55

We just installed our Nest Thermostat last week. I turned off any programming or schedules and prefer to manually adjust temps. Last night our Nest was randomly chirping. The chirping noise it makes when you use your finger to adjust the temp. I got up to check and the thermostat was randomly changing the temp up and down. It was almost as if the touch sensor part was faulty and had a mind of its own. I restarted the thermostat and also turned off the chirping noise. The temp is still changing on its own. Can someone please help? Should I do a factory reset? TIA.

Hi, @MikeT55,

Thank you so much for posting in the community. I’m truly sorry that the thermostat is chirping and changing the temperature by itself. Let's troubleshoot this together and find a solution.

To better assist you, I have some questions:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Did you create a schedule with your thermostat?
  • Are there any error messages?
  • Is your system a conventional or heat pump?
  • Do you have a C wire installed?

Since you already rebooted the thermostat and the chirping noise stopped, it’s still changing the temperature by itself. Please follow these troubleshooting steps:

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana.
