Nest Thermostat Doesn’t follow set schedule

DB88

Hello all,

I am writing with the hope that someone has experienced same or at least similar issue with the Nest thermostat and hopefully knows how to fix it.

I have been using the Thermostat for over a year now with no issues, and the main purpose for buying it was the option to set the schedule to reduce energy consumption as we have to use the AC whole day long.

Since coming back home after the vacation and checking on the AC and the Google home app I noticed that the schedule has been changed somehow. Anyways, i have manually added all the times and temperatures i needed about two weeks ago and for some reason that is beyond my common sense understanding, the thermostat follows every single schedule time and temp besides the night one!

I have set the temp to go up from 77 to 79 at 1am, or around that time multiple times trying to see why isn’t following that particular time, however no luck whatsoever.

Did anyone experience similar issue where your thermostat doesn’t follow one particular temp/time entry?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @DB88,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand your frustration with your Nest thermostat not following temperature schedules. To provide the best assistance, please share the following information:

  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • Have you checked the power readouts on the Nest thermostat?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?

In the meantime, you can also check the Home/Away settings in the app to ensure they are not interfering with your Nest Thermostat's schedule.

Once you share this information, I will gather the right steps to make your Nest thermostat work as expected.

Best,

Catheryn

Hi Catheryn,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Besides the night schedule issue, there is no other problems that i have noticed.

We did have occasional power surges, and i thought that this could potentially be the cause of the issue, but i wouldn’t know what to do about it really or how would that ‘damage’ only the night schedule and not entire device or software.

If you have any ideas about the possible solutions, please let me know.

P.S. I already did the device reset and that didn’t help.

Hi @DB88,

Thanks for your reply and the additional information.

To provide the best assistance, please share the following:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between the strange behaviors?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  •

Once you provide this information, I can offer tailored troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Best regards,

Catheryn

Hello again,

I have a Goole nest thermostat

No other patterns or strange behaviors besides night set time.

We have a quarterly Hvac maintenance,  there was no changes/upgrades or anything of that sort to the system.

Thank you!

Hi @DB88

Thanks for your reply and the additional information.

It's possible that the Rush Hour Rewards program or Eco Mode might be causing the Nest Thermostat to deviate from your schedules.

If you're enrolled in Rush Hour Rewards and want to opt out, please contact our support team.

To ensure your thermostat strictly follows your schedule without any adjustments, you'll need to:

  • Disable Auto-Schedule: This will prevent the thermostat from making automatic adjustments based on your habits.
  • Disable automatic switching: This will prevent the thermostat from adjusting the temperature based on your presence or absence.
  • Turn off Early-On: This will prevent the thermostat from preheating or pre-cooling before you arrive home.

Please let me know if these changes resolve the issue, or if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Catheryn.
