Nest Thermostat E reports True Radiant as Off even though toggle in settings says it's on

Hi folks!

I want to see if anyone else has experienced this issue and if it's simply a bug in the app or an actual issue. I have a Nest Thermostat E wired up to my gas boiler heating system that uses hot water radiators.

My situation:

  • Equipment type as configured for my thermostat is a Gas Boiler, regular Radiator.
  • All wires are set up for heat, and the boiler works (in that the boiler is turned on when the temperature is too low, and the turns off after hitting the target temp.
  • A Nest Power Connector is used to provide power to the thermostat, along with the batteries put into it.
  • My target temperature throughout the day is 69 degrees F.
  • There is a bit of undershoot and overshoot. The temperature can reach 67 degrees before the thermostat kicks on the heat, and the temperature will usually hit 70 or 71.
  • It seems better than my 50+ year old thermostat that used a bimetal coil and mercury to control temperature. The swings don't feel as extreme.
  • In the Google Home app, when I go to Devices -> My thermostat -> settings -> temperature preferences, the "True Radiant" option is present. Under this list item, it says True Radiant is Off.
  • If I tap True Radiant, the toggle is in the on position and shows a green leaf to the left.

The anecdotal feel that the temperature swings aren't as wide make me feel like it might be a UI bug in the app, though considering how it sometimes does under/overshoot by up to 2 degrees I want to check with the community if this is a known behavior.

 Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat E reports True Radiant as off. Even though the toggle in settings says it's on, I appreciate the information you sent me. It's my pleasure to assist you right now.

I'd like to ask you a few questions in order to gather more information to fix it:

  •  When did the issue first occur?
  • When was your Nest thermostat installed?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat connected firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?"
  • Do you have error codes on your thermostat display or app?
  • Was the Nest thermostat recently reset to factory defaults?
  • Is the display a replacement unit?
  • Is there a preheating message on the display?
  • Can you please provide me with a picture of your Nest thermostat wiring?

I'll be waiting for your response; please let me know if you have any other details that could be useful.

Regards,

Gabriela
