Nest Thermostat Heat Not Working

TC_B
Community Member

I am having trouble with my recently installed Nest thermostats. I have 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs, and they're both having the same problem. The tstatt is set to heat, but cold air is coming out of the vents.

I had a picture of my honeywell wiring setup which I took through the google home app during setup, but I'm not sure where it saved it... unfortunately, not to my photos where I would've expected.

The only issue that comes to mind is that I hooked the white W2 wire into W. However, there was no other place for W2, and there was no other W wire.

Honeywell wiring was as follows:

Yellow - Y

Green - G

Blue - C

Orange - O/B

White - W2

Red - R

Nest wiring as follows:

Yellow - Y

Blue - C

White - W

Green - G

Red - R

Orange - *O/B

I have already tried switching modes from O to B, but that doesn't seem to help. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi TC_B,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that cold air blows even though the thermostat is set to call for heat. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  • Are you located in North America or Europe?
  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Did you use the Compatibility Checker tool to confirm the thermostat's compatibility.
  • Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?
  • What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
  • When did heating last work?
  • Did heating ever work with the Nest Thermostat? If not, did the heating work with the previous thermostat?
  • Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?
    • Did you recently turn off any breakers?
    • Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?
    • Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?
  • Did you select the correct fuel type?
  • Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board? If yes, locate the light.
  • When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
  • Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?
  • Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?
  • Do you have a dual-fuel system or your system has alternate (alt) heat?
  • Are there any set lockout or break point temperatures?
  • Is the outside temperature below the lockout or break point temperature?
  • Is the outside temperature below 45°F (7°C)?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi I have the same problem. let me say this is an awful problem to have in the middle of NY winter google! So you better respond quick!

anyway yes I’m located in the US

we had heat yesterday and today we don’t. This has happened in the past usually it fixes after resetting it. It didn’t this time. You guys really need on hand support for this trouble shooting not some stupid forum. Like seriously **bleep** you guys actually

Hi Googulsucksdeck,

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced the same with our Nest Thermostat. Could you answer all the questions above so I can take a closer look and have more information about the situation? On the other hand, you may follow the steps here in the troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior guide for a fix

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Thanks,

Zoe

Mine actually started working the next day. I'm not sure how I solved it. I turned off both thermostats for a full day and when I turned them back on to troubleshoot, the heat was working.

Is there a phone number I can call to speak with someone to help me?

MammaB there is not! Google does not provide ANY customer support outside of this stupid forum. It takes them days to respond to these requests. And when they respond they don’t have answers, just more questions, prolonging the answers even more. I would call your local heating company, because google doesn’t care about you.
