Nest Thermostat History

Hi

When I look at my energy history, it shows that my heating has been on for most of the day but I know this isn't the case, it is on a schedule and only comes on between 6-8am and 4-8pm. Why is there so much orange on the history? Thanks

Hi Cookie254152,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat's energy history shows that heating has been on for most of the day though its really not. If you're seeing a significant amount of orange (indicating heating) on your energy history, even though your heating is scheduled to run only during specific time periods, there could be a few potential reasons for this discrepancy:

  1. Make sure that you have checked the schedule settings on your thermostat to ensure they match the required heat periods. Set the correct time, days, and temperatures in your heating schedule. Reschedule accordingly in order to ensure that the schedule corresponds with the heating times you had in mind.
  2. Nest Thermostats have presence sensors or learn functionality. This will help create an appropriate schedule for your heating. With these features enabled, the thermostat can switch on additional heating at times when it senses occupancy or learns patterns suggesting such. Turn-off presence sensing for Nest Thermostat 2020 or learning functionality for Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E.
    • For Nest Thermostat 2020:
      • Open the Home app.
      • Tap Settings
      • In the "Home features" section, tap Presence sensing.
      • Tap Delete all presence history.
      • Choose Delete.
    • For Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:
      • Go to Settings then look for Eco and select it.
      • Turn off both the Eco Temperature.
      • Click Done.
      • Look for Nest Sense and select it.
      • Select and tap Auto Schedule
      • Select "No" and "Off" then press the ring to select it.
      • Click Done.
      • Look for Reset and select it.
      • Select and tap Schedule.
      • Select Confirm Reset or Clear.
      • Turn the ring to reset schedule.
      • Click OK.
  3. The heating could have come on due to someone in your house turning them on manually during these supposedly non-heating times, as it superseded your scheduled settings! Ensure that no manual alterations have been made to the thermostat and no temporary holds have been effected. Switch off any manual overrides and holds so that the thermostat conforms to the desired heating schedule.
  4. Technical problems associated with thermostats and connectivity errors have led to unpredictable behaviors such as false energy history recordings. Resetting or restarting the thermostat, making sure that it is connected to a strong Wi-Fi, and, in some cases, even updating its firmware may solve any possible problems.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
