Nest Thermostat Randomly Doesnt Work

HughR

Hello, my Nest Thermostat continually and randomly disconnects from the Heat Link. Works for days fine then spends an evening disconnecting. Ready to throw it out the window. The thing DOES NOT work. Sick to death of switching it on and off. Is it just garbage? HELP!

Hey @HughR,

I'm sorry to hear about your issue, but I'll do my best to help you out.

  • I'd like to see a picture of the power readings, please use the thermostat's display to go into Settings> Technical Info> Power.
  • Also, I'll need a picture of the values you have in Settings> Technical Info> Network.
  • Lastly, did you notice a pattern in the thermostat's behavior? Does it happen after a certain number of days, a certain day/few days of the week? Does it happen in the evening especially?
  • What lights do you have on the Heat Link?
  • Do you receive an error message when the issue occurs?

  • Hi, issue is random. Could be days, weeks or months between events. Error message is H71. No lights connected, so don't understand the question. There does not seem to be a way to attach photos to this message????, hope you can help.

Thank you for the pictures. All the values look good. If the issue is intermittent then it's probably caused by interference. Please answer the following questions:

  • When did this issue start?
  • When was your thermostat installed?
  • How far is the thermostat from the Heat Link?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
  • Do you have many Bluetooth devices in the house?
  • What's the make and model of your router?
  • Do you only have one Wi-Fi network, or are there others? Do any of them end in _ext?

Hi, installed 13 months ago. Problems started after a monthbor too. 10 metres apart. House has a few Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, printer, Alexa, Google Dot Mini and speakers. Normal house really. Router is a Virgin Media Super Hub. Don't know if it ends  _ext, how would I find out? Thanks

Thanks for the details. It sounds like they keep disconnecting due to interference. How far is the Heat Link from your boiler?

10 metres, no other devices between them. It is now unable to connect at all. Have switched everything on and off. Incredibly frustrating.

Some suggestions on how to fix it would be appreciated. I am following all the instructions. Can't even seem to get original menu up as all it is doj g is scrolling, looking for the Heat Link. Are these things fundamentally flawed?

Hello again. Sorry for the late reply. Disconnections can happen due to interference. Can you send me a photo of your Heat Link and its surroundings?
