Nest Thermostat Wake Up on Approach Not Working

I used to have the wake up on approach working. I was testing something and temporarily toggled the option to wake up on touch. And now that toggle is permanently greyed out and I can no longer switch back to wake up on approach. 

I have another thermostat of the same model at home but wake up on approach continues to work fine on it. But on the one where I toggled this setting, the option is now greyed out permanently. I have already tried a factory reset. Please help.

Also, I have this for over 2 years and wake on approach has always worked. But suddenly now it has stopped working. Have even replaced batteries.
