My nest thermostat will come up with the equipment detected screen and then the screen with Your thermostat cannot control this equipment properly without wiring changes. I have not seen this happen if it is not locked. This is installed in a rental property so I need to limit the temperature range that the guests can use and therefore have it set to a usable range with the locked setting.
