Nest Thermostat keeps switching from cool to heat!

I had an HVAC tec look at my unit and we found it was the Thermostat that is causing the issue.  It keeps going from cooling to heating.  We had to bypass the orange wire to fool the board so I can run my unit.  This is the second thermostat that I have bought, and both had the same issue after a couple of years.  Trying to contact someone who might be able to possible fix the thermostat, so I do not have to keep buying a new one, getting expensive.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry to hear you're both having issues with your Nest Thermostat that randomly activates your heating unit. Let's sort this out.

To isolate:

  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • What kind of HVAC system do you have? (Heat pump, conventional system, etc.)
  • Are there any reports or messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent change or upgrade to your HVAC system?
  • Does the issue happen with heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Do you have a common ground wire, or C wire?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?
  • Please gather the power readouts on your thermostat's Technical Info settings for the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E, or in the Equipment settings for the Nest Thermostat 2020 model.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark
