Nest Thermostat melt down

I have had my nest thermostat for almost 4 years but in the last 4 months it has started to play up.  It will go off with a flashing green light and take a couple of days to come back on and in some cases I was getting a red light.  However I was having issues with other systems security and light control through google.  As a result of these my broadband line was fixed and I have a new router.  The thermostat then seemed to be ok for a while.  Then it started going off again but this time would turn itself back on eventually.  Over Christmas it went off and when I returned green flashing light and when I try to turn it on a red light.  I removed from the stand and charged separately but it still wont turn on!  Just a comment here when I look up how to fix this I have not found a single article that references what to do if the thermostat wont turn on.  I have purchased a new thermostat and intend to just swap the control unit and connect it to the link.  Can I still do this if I cant disconnect the old unit from the link?  Any ideas on how to get the old thermostat to turn on so I can disconnect it?  I have seen some articles that suggest the control unit has an internal battery that may be why the unit is struggling is this true?  I just want to fix this as I have no alternative thermostat on my boiler so it is difficult to control.

I agree with you. We have a nest 3rd gen and thermostat which has recently got a mind of its own.

Currently, calling for heat, boiler is fine but not coming on.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Anyone know if there is a battery that needs changing?

Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is turning on and off with a green and red light blinking. I'm happy to assist you right now.

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you perform before contacting us. To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • For how long did you charge the thermostat?
  • Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat or app?
  • Do you have another Nest thermostat display to swap with the one that is having the issue?
  • Can you please send me a picture of the thermostat wiring?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela
