Nest Thermostat not Connecting to Home App

I recently purchased a second nest Thermostat, I made several attempts to connect it to the Home app on my phone, it was already wired to the havac system. Thermostat failed to connect with the app on my phone, I made many attempts. I had restarted the thermostat, restarted the phone reloaded the app and make sure it was up to date,restarted the routers, restarted the modem and on and on and on and it wouldn't work. Out of desperation I charged up an older cell phone downloaded the app and logged in on the same account and the thermostat connected to the Home app the older phone on the first attempt via scanning the QR code on the back, it worked right away. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea why this would work on an old phone and not a newer phone? The new phone is the Samsung A5 the old phone is an LG Stylo 6.

I could see the thermostat listed as an available Bluetooth device when I activated it on the new phone but it never managed to connect with the Home app. I even deleted all of my paired devices listed on my Bluetooth paired item list. I spent hours and hours on this and read through everything I could find on connectivity issues it seems to be some sort of Bluetooth issue but almost none of the the help tips really talk about the Bluetooth issue. I'm concerned about it adding other devices and controlling with the home app in the future.

Sorry for the delay but thanks for posting and for trying those steps already. 

 

Are you getting a specific code when the setup fails using your Samsung phone? If yes, what is it? Also, have you enabled all permissions when you reinstalled the Google Home app?

Hi Melba,

No I do not get any error messages and permissions are enabled. It seems as though the Home App just cannot complete the setup even though the Nest thermostat appears on the Bluetooth list when I power it up.

Let's try to restart your thermostat to refresh your connection. Once done, try to add it to your account in the app again. 


We'll be using the Nest app here:

 

On the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E

  1. To bring up the Quick View menu, press the ring.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings Nest settings icon and press to select.
  3. Choose Nest app Get Entry Key.
  4. Your thermostat should show you a 7-character key to enter in the Nest app.
