Nest Thermostat offline in 20 degree weather!!!!!

The nest 3rd generation went offline and I could never get it to reconnect to wi-fi.  Troubleshooting didn't resolve the issue.  Now it decides to fail completely in the middle of the night 2AM. Low battery... Really? It is hard wired so why does it need a battery?  For the money I spent purchasing and paying an electrician to install only to find out it needs a battery. If I knew beforehand that the internal battery would fail I would not have purchased the product.  Heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer are needed without interruption.   I will be replacing with a new thermostat and it won't be a Nest.  This is unacceptable to not have heat in the middle of the night in the middle of winter.  No support nothing.  It isn't my home it's your product.  Fix it!!!!

Hi folks,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing a battery issue with your Nest Thermostat. Are you located in North America or Europe? Does your thermostat has C wire connected to its base?

Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E are designed to have a built-in battery that will help the thermostat power on using the wires connected to its base so you can use it. The heating and cooling wires can be used to charge the built-in battery of Nest Thermostats; however, if your thermostat's battery can no longer get sufficient power supply from your thermostat wires, you may need to connect the Nest Power Connector or a common or C wire to reliably supply power to your thermostat. The sole purpose of a common wire is to provide steady power and maintain the current flow into the thermostat; it has no control over any heating or cooling operations. If your Nest Learning Thermostat has power problems or its battery frequently discharges, you'll need to install a C wire or a Nest Power Connector. Learn more about the C wire and the Nest Power Connector by clicking on the articles below.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
