Nest Thermostat unit reading incorrect temperature

I have read many people having the same issue but before seeing any resolution or explanation, it appears "Community Specialists" close the thread for discussion!  These are recurring issues - just leave the thread open rather than forcing people to restart it.  And it would help if the CSs can actually compile the actual solution - it seems clear that there are thousands with the same issue.
Just noticed recently that Nest learning Thermostat Gen 2 was reading the temperature incorrectly.  The hallway and immediate next to the Thermostat is at 19.5 C yet Nest reads the current room temperature at 24.5C!  When I examined closer, the Nest Thermostat unit had become hot (warm) to 24.5C and that is what the Thermostat was reading.  So, I switched the unit with another from within the house.  That did not help.  Now, the replaced unit is also reading high as well.  No, the thermostat is not in the sun or has any other external heat source.  These Thermostats have been at the same location for more than 3 years with no (known issues) and with no changes.
I reset the unit to factory setting with no help.   The unit is running software version 5.9.4-5
What is the solution other than just throwing these away?
Thank you in advance for the assistance.

Hi folks,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is reading incorrect temperature. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  • Are you located in North America or Europe?
  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If yes, do they show the same issue?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If yes, would you mind listing them?

For your Nest Learning Thermostat with incorrect ambient temperature and/or humidity readout, do the following steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Technical Info Network.
  2. Check for the Signal strength value. The signal strength has a maximum value of 100. A signal strength
of 75 is considered strong, while a value of 36 or lower is considered weak.

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Best,

Zoe

I have a regular Nest Thermostat, and it is consistently reporting that the temperature is 4 to 7 degrees lower that the actual temperature (as confirmed by two other nearby thermostats). For instance, it says the indoor temp is 65F, when the other thermostats say it is 71F (and it feels like 71F). I am in North America. There are no viable posted troubleshooting steps for this; the steps you suggested, above, for the Nest Learning Thermostat aren't applicable to this one, and I see no fix in the threads.

Hi JMWinSoFla,

Uh-oh! Let's see what's going on—is your thermostat still connected to Wi-Fi? If not, when was the last time your thermostat connected to Wi-Fi? And is your thermostat on software version 1.0–6?

Thanks,

Zoe

Yes, it is connected to WiFi. And it is running Software version 1.3 (it is hardware version 1.4). I installed it yesterday, and it ran a software update when it first connected to the WiFi, as I was setting it up. It is still reporting a temperature of 2-4 degrees below the actual room temperature (according to two separate other thermometers).
