Nest Thermostat

Hi All,

I have a 5 ton Bosch unit in my new house. It has 2 stage cooling. 2.5 tons normal and an additional 2.5 tons. I remember the installer saying it's variable speed. The weather here is starting to get over 90 degrees and the unit is not able to keep the house cool. It struggles to maintain 75. I don't think the 2nd stage is kicking on. I have changed the air filters and the house is very well installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The airhandler is a bosch BVA-48WN1-420

Hi BBBaird,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let's sort this out.

I see from your thermostat wires that you don't have second-stage cooling but instead have a heat pump system. A few questions: Is this a newly installed thermostat? When did cooling last work? Do you have a photo of your old thermostat? Did your utility company install a box on your HVAC system that turns the system off during high demand (peak) times to save energy? Have you experienced extremely hot weather lately? Do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat? Also, have you set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

This is a new construction house and I asked the HVAC installer to use the Nest thermostat instead of the Bosch thermostat.

The cooling works but it's not keeping the house cool enough. It can't get it below 75 on a 90 degree day.

There is no box that the power company installed to regulate our system during peak.

The weather is not extremely hot but normal for this area.

There are no message codes.

I do have a schedule set up. At night time the AC can finally cool the house.

Thank you,

Baird

Hi Baird,

Thanks for your answers. Collect the power readings on your actual thermostat from Settings > Technical Info > Power and list down the following:

  • Battery
  • VOC
  • VIN
  • IIN

Zoe

Hey BBBaird,

Thanks for sending us the photos of your Nest Thermostat power readout. It looks like your thermostat receives enough power to run your system properly. Please restart your thermostat then continue monitoring your system's behavior.

You can follow this guide:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Reset.
  4. Select Restart.

Please let us know if the issue persists.

I appreciate your help, Zoe.

Best,

Jenelyn
