Nest app no longer works with thermostat

We moved into a house that was already equipped with a nest thermostat a year ago. We were able to connect it to the app just fine and for the most part everything worked the way it should. That being said, multiple times a week (sometimes multiple times a day) the app would go "offline" and we wouldn't be able to use the app to change the temp or turn on/off the fan. That's fine, we can deal with that. Now in the past week, the app won't say it's offline or anything, it just simply won't work. It'll say the temp is set to 72, but the actual thermostat will say it's set to what we had previously set it to (like if we had it at 74 in the morning and changed it to 72 in the afternoon on the app, the thermostat would still say 74). We can't even turn the fan on or off from the app. 
And I know what you're thinking, it must be an internet problem on my end, or the thermometer needs to be reset, blah blah. I have tried all the recommended methods of fixing this issue (like resetting the thermometer), nothing worked to fix the problem. Uninstalling/reinstalling the app didn't help. And for reference, the internet in that spot of the house the thermostat is in is just fine. At the moment I posted this, the download speed is 400 Mbps, the upload speed is 248 Mbps, the jitter is 2.1 ms, and the ping is 2ms. As you can see, my internet connection is excellent so that is not the issue. Unless there's something I'm missing, I'm suspecting the app is just faulty.

Does anyone have suggestions of other things I could try to fix this problem? Not being able to use the app with the nest thermometer for me kind of ruins the whole point of having one.

I know this is a controversial answer but, have you tried looking for the Thermostat in the Google Home App to see if it appears and is connected there?  YES google home has fewer features and such, but just want to see if we can get any sort of connection here.

I have a new home and added two thermostats to the app.  Went in to change the schedule today but no thermostats appear on the app. Thermostats are connected to the network. Very frustrating that you do not appear to be able to search for products you have added to the app.
