Hi everyone I am new to the community and would really appreciate some help, I installed my nest learning thermostat in the winter and all seemed fine, heat worked but now we’ve had some hot days and set my thermostat to cool but blows hot air. I would appreciate any advice, thanks

Hi @Celvin!

I can see why this would be frustrating, especially with the hot weather. There are a couple of things that might be causing the Nest to blow hot air even though it's set to cool with a heat pump system. Here are a few suggestions to try:

  1. Heat Pump Balance: Nest thermostats have a setting called "Heat Pump Balance" that can sometimes get out of whack. This setting helps the Nest optimize heating and cooling efficiency. You can try resetting the Heat Pump Balance through the Nest app:

    • Open the Nest app and select your Nest Learning Thermostat.
    • Go to Settings > Equipment > [Your Heat Pump Model] (if applicable).
    • Look for "Heat Pump Balance" and follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
  2. System Mode: Double-check that your Nest is set to "cool" mode, not "heat" or "auto with heat/cool." Auto mode might switch between heating and cooling depending on the set temperature.

  3. Emergency Heat: In rare cases, the Nest might be using emergency heat instead of the heat pump. This is usually for situations where the heat pump isn't functioning correctly. Check the Nest app for any warnings about emergency heat being active.

Hopefully, one of these suggestions helps you get your Nest cooling your home effectively!

All the best,

Josh
