Nest disconnected and cannot find any wifi

Heesik
Community Member

Hi,

My nest purchased last Nov 2022 disconnected from Wifi.

It cannot find any wifi signal while there should be around four including neighbors.

I tried restart and reset multiple times, but same - cannot find any wifi.

The battery is 3.96v so it is not the battery issue.

I also have not changed any wifi or router settings at all since Nov 2022.

How can I solve the issue?

Thanks.

Hello Heesik,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue reconnecting your Nest Thermostat to the Wi-Fi network, and I give props to the steps you have taken so far. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Does your thermostat show any message codes in its settings? If so, what's the code? Also, can you give these steps a whirl?

  1. Turn on your phone's mobile hotspot.
  2. Navigate your thermostat to the Reset settings.
  3. Tap Account Connection > Reset to confirm.
    1. This will disconnect it from the account, and the network will be connected.
  4. Once done, route to the network and see if any message codes appear.
    1. If none, search for any local networks.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Hi, I tried your suggestion.

After reset and connect with code and device number, phone app with hotspot on with wifi  connection can have device to try to connect, but device cannot connect.

I got error TD004 (0.65) error from phone app, but device was keep trying to connect endless.

Tried multiple times with reset, but no luck.

Hi there,

Thanks for the update. Please check your router's Multicast settings and documentation. If your router is supported by a Nest thermostat, you'll need to check your router's configuration to make sure that Multicast is enabled for all devices on your network.

If Multicast is fully enabled, refer to your router's documentation to check if it supports Multicast on internal networks, which is required for Nest thermostat. While most recently manufactured routers support Multicast for external connections to the Internet, some may not support Multicast between devices on your home network. If not, try an alternate router that has full Multicast support to know if this resolves the Nest thermostat connection problem.

Also, check your router's firmware version and compare it to the most recent firmware posted on the manufacturer's website. If it's not up-to-date, download the latest version and follow the installation instructions. Your router may also have an automatic update feature. Refer to your router's documentation to check if this feature is available. If it is, you must enable it to ensure you always have the latest firmware.

I appreciate the input, Mark.

Best,

Jenelyn

I have two access point - ATT BGW320-505 and Asus RT3000AX.

I cannot find multicast enable option in BGW320-505 but I can find transmit numbers of multicast which I consider it is multicasting and intranet ready.

The nest was working before - in connected to both access point and was working.

There was no change of configuration of both routers, and now nest thermostat cannot find any wifi available at all - which I usually have 5 or 6 including neighbors.

That is why I think my nest issue is nest wifi chip or module issue rather than router setting or router firmware unless nest recently modify nest firmware which resulted in no wifi detection issue.

Hi there

It's me again, and I want to make sure everything is covered here.

I appreciate your help here, Jenelyn.

Thanks for the details, @Heesik. In addition to the discussion, have you had a chance to perform a factory data reset? This usually helps devices bring back their default settings in order to reconfigure them. If you haven't yet, please give it a try and let me know if that helps.

Regards,
Mark

Yes I tried factory reset at day 1 when I found it cannot find any wifi.

It did not work.

Hi folks,

@Heesik, thanks for letting us know. Aside from the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, please also try to connect your thermostat to your mobile data, and then let us know if it will connect or not.

Thanks for your help, Mark and Jenelyn.

Kind regards,

I do not understand what do you mean mobile connection.

Mobile nest app asked to turn on wifi on my mobile during setup, so I cannot proceed without my phone's wifi turned on.

Also if you mean hot spot with mobile data, it failed, as I said my nest cannot find any wifi spot available while there should be more than 5 wifi spot at home according to my phone.  My phone's hotspot should be another wifi spot listed, but my nest cannot find any wifi, so my hotspot with mobile data cannot be found either.
