I find the display on the nest to be almost useless as it only shows a big number on the display. Is it the current temperature? The setting temperature? I set farsight to display current temperature and that pops up but then it goes directly to the setting temperature if I get too close. Oh, OK so above that now it says "In 15 min" so I know that is the what the thermostat is set at. But now where is the current room temperature? Minimal is usually good but in this case I think it is too minimal. My wife wants to send it back.
Another issue is that there is NO delay time when changing the setting and the unit commanding the heat or AC to immediately change state. There should be a delay and also an indication that the AC (in my case) is either ON or OFF and that indicator changes when the dial is turned above or below the current room temp.
Here is what happens which isn't good for the heating/AC system: I'm adjusting the setting down a few degrees, I go a little to far then turn it back but go a degree past current room temp. The AC shuts off then immediately back on as I lower it again. There should be a 5 or 10 second delay with no dial movement before the unit changes the AC state. If the dial was less sensitive it would also help.

Bump. Come on Google I'm not the only one less than trilled with just a big number on the display. At least put either "Setting" or Room Temp" in microscopic print above or below the number.

Hello NrGarv,
I'm sorry for the delay. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. Happy to shed some light on the situation here!
The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat has Farsight enabled by default and set to display the target temperature. On the display of your thermostat or in the Home app, you can disable Farsight or modify the content it displays.
On your thermostat
In the Home app

Hi, I've just recently bought and installed a NEST Gen 3 Stat in the UK. I'd like to agree with the original poster that far better use could be made of the scree real estate to show useful information. This should be much more customisable. I also have the issue that I'm not able to see farsight as a configuration option for the thermostat in the Google Home app. I've searched all around and found nothing :(. Are there any geographic limitations on this function? I can't really see any reason why there would be for this? Is there any other setting that needs to be done to make it visible? Your help appreciated. There doesn't seem to be much 'chatter' on this topic.

Hi there @speedyuk. Regarding the Farsight option, here is a link to an article that might help: https://goo.gle/403rYyJ , if you look at the end of it, in the " How to change Farsight settings" settings, you can see that in the Google Home app you could find it by going to Favourites or Devices
, tap your thermostat
Settings
Thermostat
Farsight. Regarding your question about geographical limitations, I am not aware of any regarding the Farsight option, but there are some things that are for example US exclusive. Otherwise, regarding your feedback about the use of display real estate, I'll pass it on to the competent department.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply. I do not see any Farsight setting options in Google Home. I added Nest to Google Home by the linking app method. Here is a link to screen shot of what I see posted on my Google Photos. - https://photos.app.goo.gl/CZ6FWuKda4VuX32V7

Can you check if you have the settings on the actual thermostat display?

Hi Tudor,
Yes the Farsight settings are available on the thermostat. I have changed it to show room temperature (from the default set temperature). Thank you.

No worries at all. Please let me know if there's anything else me or my colleagues can assist you with.

Hi there, just checking in! Did you see the message from my colleague?
10-12-2023 01:22 PM
Hi Larisa, yes I did see the message, but it didn't offer any further avenues to try. I think I will just give up for now on the prospect of any further control from the Google Home app. I'm surprised the Nest App itself does not have the option to configure Farsight. Thanks
