Nest keeps changing my preset temperatures

FuglyDuck

I have set my comfort cooling setting to 74 degrees.  My Nest Thermostat keeps changing it to 76 degrees.  I keep having to change comfort settings back to where I originally set them. I have the presence sensing off.

Hello FuglyDuck,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat that won't hold its temperature. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Please make sure that there are no duplicate schedule temperatures being created and that no other Home members are trying to access and change the temperature, either through their Google Home app that contributes the Home and Away feature. With this, check the Routines and ensure that there are no thermostat actions available that trigger it to change the temperature.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Mark

I confirmed that no other family members have the thermostats in their Google Home App (all are Apple users and most don't have the Home app).

The other household members have manually changed the thermostat down to 74 degrees where I have it preset because the actual temperature in the house goes to 76 and/or because the preset temperature changes itself to 76 degrees.

Hi there,

Got it. To confirm, have you checked the Routines settings in the Google Home app for any thermostat actions? Also, did you remember if you are enrolled in a Nest Renew program wherein it'll automatically shift your usage to times when your grid is cleaner or energy is less expensive?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,
Mark

Hello FuglyDuck,

Checking back in — how's it going? Still need our help?

Thanks,

Mark

It hasn't changed the preset Temps in a couple of days, so that's progress.  Any common cause for why it would be draining the batteries every 2 weeks.  I bought 2 and haven't changed the batteries in the upstairs one yet, but the down stairs has gone through 4 sets.

Hi there,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Do you have a C wire connected to that downstairs thermostat? Usually, if the HVAC system that is connected to that thermostat is not giving enough power, it will get its power from the battery.

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

Hi FuglyDuck,

Checking if you still need help. Please let me know, as I'll be willing to assist you further.

I appreciate the help, Mark and Edmond.

Thanks,

Jenelyn

It appears to be connected correctly.  Before we installed this thermostat it said the batteries it came with needed to be replaced.

Hey FuglyDuck,

I'm sorry for the delay and thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that the issue is now fixed.

For systems that don't use a C wire, the average battery life is about 3 to 6 months. However, depending on the Wi-Fi activity on the Nest Thermostat, the battery life might last longer or shorter. Try to replace the batteries and continue with the setup.

Once you successfully setup your thermostat, put back the old batteries and check your thermostat battery impedance. Impedance is an indicator that the batteries need replacement. To do this, on the thermostat display, please go to Settings and then Battery and then Battery Status.

If impedance is still higher than 1500 mΩ, put back the new batteries.

Cheers,

Jenelyn
