I have the home/away assistant on but lately it keeps saying im away when I'm not. How do I get this to stop. I turned the home/away setting off for now to see if that works but I would like to be able to use the setting if it worked properly.

This exact thing happens to me, even after I disabled the feature. I've reached out but I haven't heard a response.

i have the same issue.  I want to just run the heat on the schedule I set.  I do not want to use Home/Away assist as there are times that I leave the house and family is still home.  Just the schedule worked for awhile but over the last few months has been an issue.  I'm thinking I just have my settings incorrect but can't figure it out.  Thanks for whatever help you guys can offer.

Exactly! And I turn my phone off every now and again overnight. The thermostat thinks I'm away. I've tried to set them both to the same temperature but I definitely feel it get cooler when it likes I'm away.

Thanks. I went to “what determines when I am home?” And turned the sensor off. Now it just uses my schedule.

I have been having this same issue.  I went into the settings on the app and noticed that is was using the presence of my phone and my home address to determine if I am home.

The issue is that I set that up initially using a previous phone and never switched it to my current phone.

I just changed it to my current phone.  Hopefully that solves the issue for me.  I wanted to post it here so others can see if that will work for them.

Same here. It keeps switching to Away when I’m home. I can manually switch it back, but it’s annoying. Nothing in my settings is set to automatic

Let's Try this Again, Another Issue. Nest / Google keeps try to get me to sign up, ( I have by the Year 3 Yrs) N/G Camera looks like ....... 2 Yrs... Ready to Dump the Googles (8) monitor, thermostat, pucks and doorbell.

Go back to Opening Door, Going Online to see Who or What is needed...

This system is Not HAL!

Now Google popped up asking if I needed help after ?. Yes, well it didn't wait. Deleted my response!

Having the same issue here, what drives me crazy is the constant notification from my nest cams that someone is home when it's supposed to only tell me when I'm away.

I set the “What determines when you are home” settings to “no”. Now it runs purely on the schedule. This is an ok work around for me.

I do not have a constant schedule, so that doesn't work for me at all. I'm just waiting for my Google devices to crap out then I'm done with everything Google... The amount of grief I have with their products is astounding.. It used to be so great, I just don't know what happened with them.

The nest app geo fence is garbage.  I have been a nest user since the first drop cam and thermostat. When it does decide to work it’s short lived. The nest app is the bomb for everything else compared to the google home app. I have had a  android phone and a iPhone and that didn’t matter.

Lol.. even the unsubscribe link in the mails I'm getting about this is broken.

I had this issue and fixed it in the Google home app. The problem I had was that the app was using a phone that I had since replaced. So it had to be updated and use the new phone. Just having the nest app and the settings location on all the time was not enough.

So go to the Google home app. Select the thermostat that is linked to it, then go to the settings then find presence sensing. It will let you know if your phone is the one it's using for the home away feature, as well as set your address.

Hi! I am having this same issue and am unable to find the settings you are talking about in the Google Home app to fix it. Can you walk us through it one more time? Thanks!

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about your concern, I'd like to confirm, do you have other people linked to your Nest Devices? Are they using your same email address for logging in? Do you have other mobile devices with your same email address signed in? Each person can only use one phone to share one phone location at a time. If you’ve already enabled phone location on one phone, enabling it on a different phone will disable it on the first phone.

If you're already sharing your phone location using the Nest app, enabling it in the Home app will disable it in the Nest app. You can only use one app to share phone locations at a time.

You can also turn off phone location in your phone’s main settings menu, but this will not only affect the accuracy of Home/Away Assist, it may change how other apps on your phone work, too. Hit this link for more information and let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

Hello folks,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. We would appreciate it if you could share the information I’m asking above. Also, were you able to perform the steps I’m suggesting? We'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks,
Emerson

Hi Emerson, please don't be the 5th Community Specialist to drop in, ask questions and then never respond again. Please.

Hi Emerson, I kind of gave up answering because once per a couple of months a community specialist drop by, asks a question, then disappears for good 😉

I'm the only one in my house, the only one using the Nest thermostat. Same email for logging in. No other mobile devices where I'm signed in. After uninstalling/reinstalling the Nest app everything works fine for a day or 3, then I get the 'we couldn't locate your mobile device' eror again.

Only way to fix it is again uninstalling and reinstalling the Nest app, which I'd rather not do every 3 days.

I have similar issues, I set it up for my family members, but it just follows my location and turns the AC off when I'm not home.

It is not working properly as it checks my location despite me turning its access off, and it doesn't check any other member's location despite their location access being on.

Jumping in to keep this going. I have all of the same issues. I have tried to deactivate everything and just go manual. My next step is to just plug my old thermostat back in.
