Nest learning Theremostat keeps saying "Password to network has changed"

Hello;

I have been dealing with an issue now for about 2 week's.  Work up one morning to my the nest app saying the Thermostat was disconnected.  Went to the Nest and was prompted with a "Password to network <my network> has changed."  When pressed it prompted me to input password.  Which I did and it repeated the password had changed.  Went through the troubleshooting on the site and to no avail.  Installed an external C-wire as I thought it may be a battery power issue, no go.  Even tried removing from app and doing a factory reset may flash memory clean.  But did not work.  Trying set up in app fails to connect and machine says password has changed.

Also tried changing my network password, to the same issue.

Thermostat worked fine up to the point it decided that the password had changed.

Hello reed22999,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue reconnecting your Nest Thermostat back to the Wi-Fi network. Let's sort this out.

On your actual thermostat, go to the Reset settings and tap the Account Connection, then press Reset to confirm. The thermostat will disconnect from the existing network and account, so it'll give us a chance to reconnect again. Once done, open the Nest app and remove the thermostat.

Please make sure to have the correct Wi-Fi password, as you need to reconnect the thermostat to the Wi-Fi network in its settings. If the same message appears about not connecting, check the battery level in the Technical Info settings. If it drops to 3.7 volts, charge the display via micro USB for an hour before attempting to reconnect to Wi-Fi. Proceed with adding it to the Nest app for the final step.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the response mark.

Unfortunately no go.   I rest the "account connection" and removed the thermostat from the app.  When attempting to re-set up in app during the wifi section I get "Something went wrong, your thermostat couldnt connect to wifi" code TD006(3.3)

The wifi works just fine with every other device I own just not this one.  Which was working just fine until it decided that my wifi password had magically changed.

As for the rest of the spec's here is a listing of everything so you can better understand what I am working with.

Hey there,

Great troubleshooting so far, reed22999. I appreciate the details, which appear not to be related to any power issues. To be sure, try going to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and forgetting the Wi-Fi network to which it was connected. Once disconnected, reconnect it again with the same Wi-Fi password you know. If it doesn't reconnect as well, I'd suggest asking your home members for the new password or contacting your Internet Service Provider so they can retrieve it for you. If it did reconnect, restart your router by unplugging it for at least 3 minutes before plugging it back in to refresh. Also, restart your phone and check for any Nest app updates.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi reed22999,

I'm checking back in — how's it going? Have you managed to check the settings I mentioned above? Please let us know how it goes so we can properly diagnose the issue.

Regards,
Mark

Mark,

I have done all the items suggested.  Even tried to pair it via mobile Hotspot to a phone.  And continues to give the same error message.  "The password for network <network trying to connect to> has changed.  Eventhough I never have once connected to the network via my phone I got the password has changed routine.  That to me says there is something in the memory not being cleared out of the thermostat.

I've also had no issues with the handful of other devices connected to my network.  I've even unpaired and repaired them to my wifi network with complete sucess.

Hello there,

Thanks for the update. Can you try using a different mobile device, such as another phone or tablet, to set up your thermostat? Also, tell us the make and model of the device you used.

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for all the help.  I reached out to support last night and after about an hour going through troubleshooting they opened up an rma case and are in the process of replacing the unit.
