Nest learning thermostat is not recognizing my AC

Solidus

I just replaced my old thermostat with a nest one. I connected all wires per the picture I took and nest instructions, in my old thermostat the blue wire went to C and controlled the AC. Nest instructed me to connect this wire to C but it does not show a cooling option in the display, only heating.  I tried putting this wire to Y1 and AC was recognized, however when I did the test, the AC unit started making a clanging sound and the AC would turn on/off, I disconnected right away. I went back to my old thermostat and everything is now working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For reference, I have red (Rh), white (W1), blue (C) and green (G) wires.

Hi @Solidus,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Learning Thermostat is not recognizing your AC. Help's here!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Could you share a picture of the wiring configuration through the HVAC control panel?
  • What is the model of your previous Thermostat?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC system?

In the meantime, let's check this tip:

  • Check your system’s control board: The control board is usually inside your furnace or HVAC equipment, so you may have to open or remove a panel to check inside. Refer to this article: Check your system’s control board.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Thank you! Please let me know if you need more info

Hi @Solidus,

Thank you for sharing the details and photos of your HVAC system. Based on the information provided, it appears that there may be a wiring issue.

The manual for your Carrier heat pump and AC indicates that there should be an orange wire. However, from the photos, it seems that the wiring configuration is different.

To ensure the safe and proper functioning of your HVAC system, we recommend contacting a qualified technician. They can inspect the wiring, identify any potential issues, and make the necessary adjustments.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Josh

Thank you for the information and assistance- much appreciated!
