Nest learning thermostat won't reconnect to wifi automatically after internet restarts, must re-ente

If the internet goes out, when it comes back online the thermostat doesn't automatically reconnect. I have to select the SSID and then re-enter the password each time.   I have the same thermostat at another house and it reconnects without a problem when this happens.  Thank you!

Based on this information, I'd like to ask you some questions. I'm happy to help you!

  • What's the software version of your thermostat?
  • Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
  • Do you see any error code in the app or in the thermostat? 
  • Is your thermostat offline?

thank you for the follow up.  

  • What's the software version of your thermostat?     version 6.2-27       Model Display-3.7
  • Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?   have tried both but usually use 2.4ghz
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?  No there are no other devices in use or nearby
  • Do you see any error code in the app or in the thermostat? No
  • Is your thermostat offline?  It is online.    The only problem I am having is that whenever the Spectrum internet service goes down, and we restart the cable modem and the Netgear router, the internet comes back up and the Nest sees that internet is available, but I have to reselect the proper SSID and re-enter the password.  It doesn't remember the password.  Next to the list of SSID's it does show a star, which tells me it remembers which one we were using but it requires that I re-enter the password and then it connects right away.

I really appreciate all this information you just shared with me. At this point, I would like to share with you the following troubleshooting steps that may help you resolve the issue of the Wi-Fi not automatically reconnecting:

  • Check if you have the same problem with other devices.
  • Check if your Nest Learning Thermostat recognizes other networks.
  • Verify the battery level: Settings > Technical info > Power.
  • Please connect your Nest Learning Thermostat to a Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Make sure your router settings match the recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings.
