Nest not compatible with Cost Of Living Crisis!

ClareB
Community Member

I have posted on here before about this subject and have received several concurring comments from other members.

@GOOGLE - please can you explain why the nest only allows programming in half hourly intervals? During these difficult times (and under normal circumstances), this product should allow minute by minute programming. I feel like I've taken a step back from my old manual system.

Surely this is only a minor software upgrade? I would welcome a response from a GOOGLE representative on this please.

Hi ClareB,

Thanks for posting ― let's get this sorted out.

A few questions: what Nest Thermostat do you have? Check this link to know what thermostat you have. Since when has this been happening? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Best,
Mel

Hi Mel

Are you an official Google Nest employee? I ask as it's not clear from your post.

We have a Nest learning 3rd gen big screen. You should see from my original post that this has been a problem since day one and is based on lack of functionality in my opinion, unless I'm missing something? In terms of trouble shooting, I'm not sure how I can trouble shoot something that isnt there? I would be really happy to be proved wrong though.

Many thanks

Clare

Hello folks,

I'm sorry for the late response and for the confusion this may have caused you, Clare. Is this about the temperature schedule? If so, the scheduled difference would help the system cool down, and HVAC systems do take time to run before they reach the target temperature. Allowing them at least 30 to 60 minutes would help them adjust. Also, from what country are you posting?

Thanks for assisting, Mel.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark

Thank you for your response. Are you a Google employee? I am a bit confused about your response and not sure what you mean.

My hot water schedule and heating thermostat does not allow for any programming less than 30 minute increments which is a step back from my old system. This, to me, is a basic requirement.

Thanks

Hello @ClareB! I'm part of the official support team for the Google Nest devices for Europe. My colleague Mark is part of the North American support team and his explanation is better suited for the device sold there, hence the confusion. The thermostat has been optimized in such a way to be as energy efficient as possible, but I understand that it may not be perfectly fit for every single person. If you want to set the thermostat to a certain temperature, it will call for heat until the target is reached and then will only start the boiler to maintain it, so even if it is an half an hour or an hour set point, the thermostat won't keep the boiler on if the target temperature is reached. As for the Hot Water, it also takes a while for the boiler to heat sufficient water and store it into the tank, and it is more efficient for the thermostat to call for hot water for half an hour, rather than do it multiple times for shorter periods. As I said this may not be exactly fitting to what you would prefer, and that's why I'll further your feedback, and you can rest assured that it will be taken into account. Thanks for the interest you've showed on this matter.

Hi, I wanted to check in. Is there anything else I can perhaps try and assist with?
