Nest not operating Rheem outside compressor

Hello

I replaced a Honeywell thermostat with a Nest Learning thermo.  It runs the fan, and aux heat at this point, but does not start the outside compressor (Rheem 13PJL36A01 circa 2013).  It feeds a Rheem Air handler circa 2013).

I suspect either a wiring mismatch or something about the Nest Configuration.  The current wiring is the bottom picture.

Please excuse the crappy drywall patch.

Here is the Honeywell (Rh was attached to Rh stud)

After consulting with Google Nest hotline, they confirmed Nest is compatible and the wiring.

The below is the current wiring.  Below the pictures is the troubleshooting data so far.

Troubleshooting/ System Behavior.

1. When heat turns on,  the Aux heat starts immediately.  Nice warm air 😉

2.  When running the Equipment - Test - Heat test, the house fan activates but compressor is off.

3.  I reset ckt breakers and verified the control board on the compressor was in Normal mode (two flashing lights per the chart on the board).

4. Under Equipment I selected Electric heat source.

Let me answer my own problem. The orange wire is not a Aux heater wire. It is the O/B wire. Rheem uses the B mode so you have to set up your thermostat in the B mode.

Hi lrogers287,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm glad to hear that you were able to figure out the correct wiring. Upon checking the outside unit that you have is a heat pump so it makes sense that the orange wire is an O/B wire. How's it going? Were you able to test your Nest Thermostat?

Thanks,

Edward
