Nest running AC for hours

Barb1015

I have my nest set to 80f when no one is home. 77f when someone is home.

It seems that when I’m home the air conditioner runs constantly for hours.

Is this normal?

Right now the temperature inside is 77. Outside it is 81.

At least, I think the temperature is 77 inside, or it might just be set to 77. I have it in eco mode… and I’ll be honest, I really don’t understand this system.

If there is a foolproof YouTube video that explains it all, I would welcome that.

We’ve had the AC since 2020, and only had the nest since last year.

Thank you,

  • Barb

Hi @Barb1015,

Thanks so much for reaching out. I can certainly understand why you'd be concerned about seeing your AC run for hours just to maintain 77°F inside when it's 81°F outside. No need to worry; I'm happy to help.

To provide the most accurate information, could you please answer the following questions?

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If so, do they show the same issue?
  • Have you already tried any troubleshooting steps? If so, can you please list them?
  • Any recent changes to the HVAC system?
  • Can you please send me a picture of the Nest Thermostat wiring?

I look forward to your response so we can find a solution for you soon.

Regards,

Gabriela
