Nest sensor doesnt work unless its right next to thermostat

I set up my nest thermostat sensor just now and will not connect if it is more than 5 feet from the thermostat. It said the range was 50ft when I bought it. It's kind of useless at such a low range when I wanted it in the bedroom. How can I fix this? It's it defective?

Hi anthylorrel,

I'm sorry to hear that as well as for the delayed response. I understand how you feel let's check this out.

Give these steps a try:

Restart the thermostat.

  1. Remove the battery from the sensor for at least 30 seconds, then put it back.
  2. Check that you're logged in to the correct account and can see the sensor in the Nest app.
    • If not, you will need to change accounts or unpair and pair the sensor to the correct home structure. If you're using a new or different account, the sensor will continue to show in your old account until removed from that account.
  3. To reset the network settings of the thermostat, go to Settings > Reset > Network. If Network isn't available, select Account connection instead.
  4. Reconnect the thermostat to the network. If you reset the thermostat's Account connection, also reconnect the thermostat to the account.

Let me know how it works.

Thanks,

JT

It's on the right account. There is nothing wrong with the thermostat. But moving the sensor 10 feet away from the thermostat puts it out of range. How do I remove the battery from the sensor?

Hi anthylorrel,

Got it! To remove your sensor battery, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert a coin into the slot at the back of the sensor.
  2. To unscrew the battery cover, turn the coin.
  3. Remove the battery then put it back in.
  4. Place the cover back.

Let me know how it works.

JT
