Nest shows heating but furnace is not on

bwalkowi

We recently moved into a new house with a Nest Learning Thermostat and each day I have needed to manually turn on our furnace because the Nest would not. The display would show heating with an estimated heating time but the temperature would drop. Once I get the furnace running it will run fine for a few hours but every night around midnight-2am the Nest will do the same thing showing it's heating but the furnace is not on. The previous owner had no issues with the furnace or the Nest communicating with each other.

I have done a factory reset, restarted, removed any schedules, removed the safety temperature and the problem persists.

We are expecting a baby in the coming weeks so resolving this issues is of the highest priority. Please help!

Turns out our heat exchanger was cracked in multiple places on the furnace and was triggering a safety feature to turn itself off. This issue had to be immediately attended to by replacing the furnace. With the new furnace in place we are not experiencing any further issues with Nest.

Hi bwalkowi,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

The Nest Learning Thermostat can automatically adjust the temperature based on what it learned from the past changes or user's configurations. You could check the temperature schedule and delete it, then create your own. Check if it is still connected to the previous owner's account.

You could do a complete factory data reset on your thermostat and connect it to your WiFi and add it to your own account. This way, you could manage it remotely using the app.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan
