Nest smart thermostat 3

Philpeak
Community Member

Hi

I've set up my learning thermostat which is working fine in the nest app. However as I understand it should also appear in the Google home app. I'm logged onto both apps with the same credentials. I've tried adding the thermostat as a device that works with Google. When asking for username and password it tells me it's wrong and log on with Google credentials. But there is no option to do that. So I'm guessing it's looking for a nest user name and password which I don't have because when I set up the thermostat it used my Google credentials as default. Please help as its driving me nuts.

Got the same problem:

  • Use same google account for Google Home App and Nest App
  • Reinstalled apps, no fix
  • Tried 'App password' inside google account settings, not working
  • Girlfriend long added to family in Google Home, after (just now) testing the Nest App she can directly login and see the thermostaat v3 and protects. After the test she was also visible inside Nest App family, before not

Conclusion, there is a connection with de Nest and Google Home.
But when trying to add the Nest intergration inside Google Home we both can't login with our google account.

I suspect, the link 'login with your google account' is missing, and the current credential screen is only for a nest account.
So that could be the reason it's not working.

Hi folks,

I understand it can be confusing, but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the help, @Mz81.

@Philpeak, I appreciate you trying to find a fix. Let's find out more about what happened.

If your thermostat has been added to the Nest app, it should automatically appear in the Google Home app, and there's no need to set up the device. Make sure to login with the same email address associated with your Nest thermostat. If so, check for other available structures where your thermostat might be connected. Here's your guide on how to switch home structure.

Let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark

Hey,

Thx for the replay, i got it fixed!

The devices in the Nest App where not assigned to rooms!
After enabling rooms inside the Nest App, the Nest thermostat was automaticly added to the google home app 🙂

* There is a possibility i needed to change/rename the room of the thermostat inside the Nest App, before was added to the Google Home App, but not sure anymore haha.

Hi Mark thanks for getting back to me.
I got it working in the end by completely uninstalling both apps and starting again. I installed the nest app first and set it all up with the thermostat using my Google credentials. I then installed the Google home app, again using the same credentials but this time it found the nest thermostat.

many thanks for your help

Hi there,

Awesome! Thanks for the update, Phil. I'm glad that your Nest thermostat is already shown in the Google Home app. You can now use both apps to access and control your thermostat remotely.

So I'm going to lock this thread in 24 hours. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.
