Nest thermostat 3rd gen

Hello,

I am trying to install Google Nest Learning thermostat and when I followed the instructions the nest app told me to put

G to G

W to W

Y to OB

and on my thermostat the jumper was between rh and rc but the cable was attached to RH directly. so I put it on RH.

the nest thermostat is showing e77 but the address mentioned doesn't work.

I searched on internet with this error and somoenone mentioner on a forum that if you don't have heat pump and instead has conventional furnace the wire shouldnt go to OB and instead yo Y1. so I changed that but when I attach nest it keep saying E77 and still

shown the old wiring. Even when I have removed it. There is no way tou go out and restart the process.

Please tell me if the wiring is correct? and how do I reset the thermostat to start the setup again.

Thanks

Hello szeeshanz,

Thank you for reaching out regarding your installation of the Nest Learning Thermostat. We appreciate your detailed description of the wiring configuration and the challenges you're facing during the setup process.

It sounds like you're experiencing some challenges with your thermostat installation. Let's troubleshoot the wiring:

  • G to G: This is for the fan wire, and usually it's correct.
  • W to W: This is for heating and should be correct.
  • Y to OB (or Y1): This is for cooling. Since you mentioned that you don't have a heat pump and instead have a conventional furnace, it might be more appropriate to connect it to Y1.

Make sure that the wires are securely connected. If the Nest Thermostat is still showing the old wiring even after you've made changes, there might be an issue with the initial setup.

To reset the Nest thermostat: On the thermostat: Go to the Nest thermostat and press the ring to bring up the main menu. Select "Settings" > "Reset" > "All Settings." After resetting, go through the setup process again. Make sure to choose the correct options based on your HVAC system (conventional furnace) during the setup. If you're still getting the E77 code, post a picture of your old thermostat and gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark
