Nest thermostat 4th gen doesn’t have heat or cold

I have my new nest setup with exactly the wiring that was setup with the old thermostat, but it only blows room air, no heat or cold. Our system is a heat pump with electric heating. What should I do?

Hi @Sobs,

Thank you for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) not heating or cooling and only blowing room-temperature air. I'll be more than glad to help you.

To gather all the necessary information and provide you with the best assistance, please answer the following questions:

  • Are there any error messages on the display of your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Do you have a picture of the wiring of your old thermostat?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
  • Did you try to install the previous thermostat and confirm if your heating and cooling work?
  • Could you please follow the instructions below to make sure your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) recognizes all wires, and then reply to this post with a photo of the display?
    1. Press the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) toward the wall to access the menu.
    2. Rotate the dial clockwise until the Settings icon lights up.
    3. Press the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) toward the wall again to confirm your selection.
    4. Rotate the dial clockwise until you see the equipment option.
    5. Select wiring info.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.
