Nest thermostat HVAC warnings?

Trekker182

Is it just me or does it make sense that just before a nest thermostat dies or even before then when it tries to get the air handler to turn on, but the float switch is tripped, to pop up a notification in the nest app ?  I ask this because this is the second time in a year it’s died and I noticed a temperature difference 14 hours after it died at 3am.  If it popped up a notification , I could have called my ac guy first thing in the morning, but now I have to wait until tomorrow for it to be looked at.  Google chat said on the device itself it would tell you it’s not getting a charge, but I thought that was kind of the point in having a smart thermostat is that you’d get notifications of important events on your phone, no?

Hi Trekker182,

Thanks for reaching out to us. The Nest Thermostat primarily focuses on providing temperature control, energy savings, and remote access through the app. Notifications for specific HVAC system faults, like a tripped float switch, are not currently a standard feature of the Nest Thermostat but you may take a look here in the HVAC monitoring from the Google Nest article to help you identify potential issues with eligible heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Please be assured that our product team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to our Google Nest devices. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback. In the meantime, it's a good idea to periodically check the thermostat's status and settings in the Nest app to ensure everything is functioning properly. Regularly monitoring the system and being proactive in addressing any issues that arise can help prevent prolonged periods without heat or cooling.

We're here if you have any other questions.

Best,

Zoe
