Nest thermostat Not Holding Charge

Lesliep
Community Member

Hello. I need help. I have 2 gen1 thermostats. One of them went “dead” after being off for several weeks or even longer. I was able to bring it back to life using charging cable- but that only lasted a few hours. Put it on charging cable for 3 plus hours and it is now awake again. I’ve switched the two thermostats onto the two bases to confirm it’s the thermostat not the wiring or a base issue. If it fails again- do I have any other options save a new thermostat. If this is the case, which ones will fit on the same base?  I am not too familiar with any of this and hope my explanation and questions make sense. I read about a c wire- there is a wire in the c hole in the base. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Same issues. First NEST thermo went off, no power according to error code. Bought a brand new one, to have the same issue. An electrician could not get the AC on until went all the way back to original thermostat, the regular kind. AC works. Is a NEST issue.

Hi @earg25,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community! I’m sorry to hear that you encountered a power error code on your Nest Thermostat and had to replace it. It's great that an electrician confirmed your HVAC system is functioning properly.

Did you attempt any troubleshooting steps before replacing the thermostat? If so, please share what you tried.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Axel.

Hi @Lesliep,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat isn't holding a charge. I appreciate your efforts to troubleshoot by charging it with the USB cable.

Regarding your questions:

  1. If switching the displays doesn't resolve the issue, it could indicate a faulty base plate. However, if the problem persists with only this device, a faulty display might be the culprit.
  2. Please note that Nest Thermostats are compatible only with their corresponding generation base plates. For example, a 1st generation display won't work with a 3rd generation base plate. They must be the same generation.

Please let me know how things go after changing the base plate, and I'll provide further assistance if needed.

Best regards,

Axel.

Thanks so much for your reply. It is now looking like it is not the thermostat- I have two and they both work upstairs, but neither work downstairs. More than that, the downstairs locations drains battery in both thermostats, which revive when I recharge them with cable. I have hvac tech coming later this afternoon.

Hi Lesliep,

Thanks for the confirmation! In the case that both displays are getting the battery drained downstairs, your base plate is faulty. No worries, help is here! Ok, so my hvac installed a manual thermostat just to check the furnace and wiring and it works. I am just going to buy a new nest- but can’t figure out the diffubetween T3007ES and T3019ES and further, which one I should get. Hopefully you can help with this- I’ll order the thing- and be done with it. My guess is it was the base but he checked the wiring with some meter thing and it was fine. Maybe something with the connector in the base but I’m over it.  Thanks much!

Hi LeslieP,

Thanks for your reply! It's great to hear that an HVAC technician checked your systems and the wiring is good.

I just checked, and we haven't received your form submission yet. Were you able to access it correctly? Regarding the T3007ES and T3019ES codes, these are SKU codes (stock keeping units). While there's no functional difference between them, it's generally recommended to use a base plate that matches the generation of your thermostat. Please fill out the provided form to check what can be done with your existing base plate.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Axel.
