I've just had a third generation learning thermostat installed and I have set up a schedule for each day of the week.
If I have set the schedule to come on at 4pm each day and arrive home early one day, how can I turn the heating on early on that day alone without altering the schedule. And the opposite, if I want to turn the heating off on one occasion without affecting the future schedule.

You can perform a temporary override by twirling the ring on the unit or pushing the up/down arrows in the app. That changes the Nest's current temperature target but not the schedule. The Nest will revert to your schedule at the time of the next set point in the schedule.
