Nest thermostat changes temp randomly

Why does my thermostat change the temperature automatically from what I have my schedule set for? I turned off the learning feature so it shouldn't adjust automatically. Can someone please help me. I called the nest technical support and they were no help. But I guess that's what you get when you call overseas

Same thing just started to happen to mine and it’s wasting my oil. What I read is that we need to put it back to factory and do the setting I’ll over again. I’ll be doing that.

Hi, mine been doing the same thing during this cold winter. Had heat set to 70, but an hour later it changed to 66. I turned off the auto-schedule as well

Will do factory reset now, but could you guys update if you found another solution?

Thank you

Continue: in Setting I was able to reset my Calendar instead of factory reset, it's been about 2-3 hours now and the temperature on the thermostat is staying at what I set it. Hope this helps.

Mine keeps adjusting upward! I have it set to 70 but goes to 77 and higher. It is a heat pump unit. We just did an uninstall/reinstall a couple of weeks ago for other reasons, and now this has started. All learning is off. Made sure that both the Neat app and the Google Home app had the same settings.  I can try another reset but am about ready to toss the thing in the trash.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry for any trouble this may have caused, and I appreciate all the steps everyone has taken. Let's see what's going on and why the thermostats are changing the temperatures randomly.

Could you tell us what type of Nest Thermostats you all have? Also, clear the temperature schedules, and please let us know if that helps or if the issue still persists.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
My 2 Nests are the newest generation of learning thermostats and were installed by Geek Squad. In the apps it showed I had turned off learning and schedules for both units.

I had both upstairs and downstairs units on the “heat/cool” setting.

The one downstairs was turning on the Cooling every evening, so it was evidently using a schedule. I checked the apps and they said schedule was off.

At Thanksgiving I had my techie son-in-law completely uninstall and reinstall both of the thermostats. I was frustrated and just wanted a fresh start with both of them! We did not set either of them to learn or schedule.

After the reinstall the downstairs unit continued to switch to cooling, seemingly on a schedule, so I finally just changed the setting to “heat” so it wouldn’t cool anymore.  I did not reset it.

After the reinstall I also changed the Upstairs from “heat/cool” to “heat”.  At that point it started to change temperature on its own….evidently running the heat (electric heat pump) up to 79 degrees for 14 hours per day while we were gone for the Christmas holiday. I had been checking my Google Home app while gone, but just saw the dashboard and it showed a normal number, so I didn’t click on it to see what was actually happening.

When we got home and I went upstairs to find the heat at 79 I went back into both the Nest and Google Home apps and also the thermostat to make sure learning and schedules were off, and they seemed to be. Yet, the upstairs thermostat still kept turning back up to 79. I finally reset that upstairs thermostat again last weekend and since that reset it has held a steady temperature.

I am having the same issue. Started last year when finally switched to heat. Set to to 68 and at 7am it cranks itself to 72. No auto schedule set, no learning set, no eco, no anything turned on. I briefly resolved this problem by turning auto schedule on then off again; however we had a hot Christmas so I set it to heat/cool and now the problem has started again now that I've switched over to only heat. Someone at Google needs to take a deep dive into there coding/updates and resolve this.

I'm sorry if everyone has to go through this, and thanks for letting us know about your experiences. I found another information that would also be the reason for a random change in your thermostat's temperature. Please have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Thanks,

Mark
