Hello SimonK1,

Thank you for taking an interest in our community. I understand that after replacing a thermostat’s battery, you receive a message saying, “Please attach the display to its base.” Don’t worry; I’m happy to help.

For your security and care of the device, we don’t recommend replacing the internal parts of the thermostats. If you’re experiencing inconveniences, please reach out to us to provide you with further assistance.

To continue addressing the situation, could you please answer the following questions?

Keep me in the loop to assist you with the next steps.

Regards,

Daniel

hi daniel

thank you for your message. .

I think the thermostat is a nest generation three and I don’t know when it was installed, but my guess is it was several years ago.

I have now purchased a new base ring connector, and that also seems to be unable to resolve the problem.

Hello SimonK1,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. To continue providing further assistance, follow these instructions:

  • Make sure that the wires are flat on the base.

  • Loosen the screws of the base. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.

  • Make sure the thermostat display is properly seated.

  • Verify the 20-pin connector for any visible damage. They need to be straight and in good condition. Check both the male and female ends on the base.

  • Reseat the wires.

    1. Turn off the power to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and reseat all the wires.

    2. Make sure that the wire from the terminal is flush against the base so you can properly seat the display at the base.

    3. Turn the power back on and reattach the display to the base.

  • Perform a hard restart on the thermostat. Pressing the thermostat ring until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds)

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel
