Nest says it is cooling, but the AC unit has not turned on and the blower is not on.

Hi Pglake,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that your Nest thermostat says it's cooling, but the AC and blower aren't on. Help is here!
At the moment, I'd like to ask you a few questions to give the correct troubleshooting:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)
  • To help us get a better picture of what's happening, do you mind sharing a photo of the wiring of your Nest thermostat?
  • When did cooling last work?
  • Do you see a power error code on your thermostat?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,
Rusell.

Same issue, gen 4, standard ac condenser and furnace, this is 100% a software issue, so you don't need a photo, about a week ago? Maybe a little longer, no power code.

I want to say I saw an update and a couple days after that it's like it would say that it's cooling, but wasn't doing any cooling. I turned off every smart feature and did a reboot and after maybe an hour the compressor finally kicked on. But everything was working wonderfully for almost a year prior to the issues a arising in the last week.

Hi Loathesong,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same inconvenience where your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) says it's cooling, but it isn't cooling. I appreciate the troubleshooting you've done so far. Help is here!

To move forward, I'd like to ask for some details to provide you with the correct troubleshooting:

  • Please provide a picture of your old wiring configuration. This will help me visualize the wire connections.
  • If possible, please provide a picture of your control board. It's usually located near the furnace.
  • A picture of the current wiring configuration on your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen).
  • Please provide a picture of the configuration in the Google Home app. Please avoid sharing the serial number information or device ID
  • Do you have a conventional or heat pump system?
    • Conventional System: Typically consists of two pieces of equipment (furnace and AC).
    • Heat Pump: Handles both heating and cooling with a single unit

The pictures will help me determine two things: whether the issue is with the software or the hardware, and the compatibility.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.
