Nest thermostat does not operate fan on sensor temp

Hi,

I have a 3rd gen nest thermostat with a sensor for my second level of the house. there is a constant temp difference between the floors by at least 8F. What is the setting that Nest can enable Fan to turn on to get temperature differential a bit closer rather than having HVAC turn on to mess the temp even more.

there was a past post on the same topic few years back but seems like the team is not prioritizing low handing fruits.

Snippet from the old post back in '22: regards: @rsc

I have 3 Nest Temp sensors & the only thing they accomplish is making one room much colder than the "comfort" set temp because the AC compressor is running to cool the room which is set as the active sensor at that time. Sensor schedules are not effective for my house. However, the simple ability to have the fan run when the temp on the active temp sensor is much different from the main Nest thermostat and/or the other rooms in order to simply circulate the cold & warm air between different rooms by using the fan only vs running the AC compressor would result in substantial energy savings while also eliminating the issue I have where 80% of my house is 70* while the AC is running to cool a single room (my office) with an active temp sensor set to 76* while I work. Due to the fact that Nest already has a separate control for the fan only or fan + AC compressor (or heater),

Hi GrimBlah,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you need to activate the fan to reach your desired temperature. I'm happy to assist you.

The recommendation is to activate a schedule to turn on the fan. This option will only activate the fan.

Please visit Fan control with the Nest app where you'll find information on how to activate the schedule and other options for the fan.

Let me know if this helps!

Regards,
Manuel
