Hello,
My Nest thermostat keeps showing the message:
“Adjusting to use less energy during Peak Time, when energy is less clean or more expensive.”
This keeps happening even though:
I never enrolled in any energy-saving, Rush Hour Rewards, or utility company programs.
All related Nest settings are turned off — including Eco Mode, Seasonal Savings, Auto-Schedule, and Home/Away Assist.
I’ve checked the app and the website thoroughly and confirmed every automation or energy setting is disabled.
Despite this, Nest keeps taking over my temperature during certain hours and displays this Peak Time message. It seems like it's acting on settings or program enrollments that I never agreed to.
I also attempted to contact Google Nest support through the website:
The callback option fails with “Something went wrong.”
The chat support is stuck at “You’re number 9 in line” and never progresses.
The Nest support phone number appears to be inactive now.
I’d appreciate if someone from the Nest support team or community can help me:
Understand why this Peak Time behavior is still happening.
Find out how to completely disable it.
Note this just started on May 18th 2025.
Thanks in advance.

Hi @mikej411,
Thank you very much for contacting this community! I'm sorry to hear that you're still receiving the message "Adjusting to use less energy during Peak Time, when energy is less clean or more expensive," even after disabling all related settings and despite not being enrolled in an Energy Program.
I appreciate your effort when you were checking and disabling all accessible settings (Eco Mode, Seasonal Savings, Auto-Schedule, Home/Away Assist) in your Nest thermostat. It's particularly concerning that this behavior started recently (May 18th, 2025) and you're unable to reach Google Nest support. I'm happy to help.
I recommend you reach out to customer support directly for the most effective assistance with this issue, using this phone number: +1-855-469-6378.
@JamieC123, thanks for sharing that; it's really useful for everyone!
Keep me posted.
Best regards,
Eduardo

Just found this:
It is likely from a setting at nestrenew.google.com, which would be linked to the profile of the home user for the thermostat. Under settings, you'll see a "Prioritize Cleaner Energy" option, which is what allows Nest to adjust the temperature by a degree or so when it understands the lower grid to be using dirty energy. Normally, it doesn't bother me, but I recently disabled that option because of this horrible heat in order to maintain a consistent temperature. I was finding that my air conditioner was running extra to try to catch up for that degree or two.

I am experiencing the same problem and have followed all the steps listed by the original poster. I keep seeing the leaf, which denotes some savings, yet I have not approved any. Could my local energy company (BG&E) be regulating my Google Nest in some fashion?
