Nest thermostat keeps disconnecting from WiFi

I've had Nest with a new boiler for a couple of months. Today for the first time ever it disconnected from the WiFi. I reset it and it reconnected - until it lost the connection about 10 minutes later. I reset it, removed and reinstalled it on the network (after about 3 attempts it went back online). 10 minutes later, disconnected again.

Nothing has changed in terms of my Internet. Why has this suddenly happened and how can it be fixed without hassle? I've not enjoyed having the Nest product and am now regretting having it installed even more.

Hi IanPe,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat keeps on disconnecting from your WiFi. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  1. Are you located in North America or Europe?
  2. What Nest Thermostat model do you have?
  3. Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  4. Can your other devices find your Wi-Fi network name (SSID)?
  5. Do you only have one Wi-Fi network, or are there others? If yes, do any of them end in _ext?
  6. Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
  7. Can your other Wi-Fi-capable devices (phone, tablet, computer) connect to the internet through your Wi-Fi network?
  8. How far away is the thermostat from the router?
  9. Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
  10. What's the software version of your thermostat?
  11. Are you controlling your thermostat from the Nest or Google Home app or the thermostat display? If from the Nest or Google Home app, is your mobile device on a different Wi-Fi network than the thermostat?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe

Thanks for the reply. There's an awful lot of questions to answer and steps to go through when Nest stops working.

Happily, after 48 hours of disconnecting and reconnecting, Nest has stayed connected again. Clearly a problem with their system rather than mine, since nothing changed at my end during all that time.

Hi there,

I see. I'll keep this thread open while you monitor the connection with your thermostat.

Thanks,

Zoe
