Nest thermostat keeps dying

Kathysue

I have two nest thermostats and one of them dies after being on the base for only a couple of days. It is not a wiring problem since I have swapped the units and the other works perfectly on both bases and was only charged initially 6 months ago. Does anyone have a phone number to call to get a replacement? Thank you!

@Kathysue

Does each thermostat control a separate HVAC system, or do they control the same one but with a zone controller?

Can you post a picture of each thermostat's wiring and, if there is a zone controller, another showing its wiring?

Is there a C wire installed at each thermostat location? Without a C wire, the Learning thermostat can work for a month to a year without a power problem, and then one day, they start having power problems.

Take a look at the battery voltage on both of them. Which is under the technical Info menu

To get to the Technical Info menu on your Nest thermostat:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to Technical Info and press to select.
  4. Turn the ring to Power and press to select.

The battery voltage will show at the top and needs to be 3.7v or higher. If it is lower then the battery isn't getting fully charged.
